The place
We’re having our party in London on 22 July 2017. It will be in the evening, and there will be food, drink and music provided for the whole night. Controversially, it’s not in East London, Rachel’s homeland and the homeland of her boy Idris Elba. It’s in Brixton in South London where we live, at a lovely place called Brixton East. Check out the photos on their website. It’s not sunny California but it is a pretty excellent place.
Accommodation
London isn’t known for budget accommodation but you can get decent places without totally breaking the bank. Here are some suggestions:
The Premier Inn is the closest hotel to the venue, and also happens to be in Brixton which is a great neighbourhood to explore in general. The hotel is also less than 5 mins walk to Brixton tube station, and then 10 mins to central London. At the time of writing this, it was around £75 per room per night which for London is not bad at all.
Discount websites are your friend when it comes to London accommodation. We recommend:
Hotwire
Kayak
Expedia
Booking.com
Lastminute.com
And if you’re into airbnb, we’re more than happy to help with areas you might want to stay in, so just get in touch. They can be a pretty good price, especially if there are a few of you staying together.
Most people get around London on the Tube (the London Underground) so being close to a Tube station is something worth doing when you’re looking at accommodation. Here’s a Tube map to help you work it out. A link for the night tube (since the party will be going until the early morning) is here for your convenience.
Travel
Obviously for a chunk of people coming you’ll have to cross an ocean first (thanks again, we can’t wait to see you!) But once you’re in London, the easiest way to get to Brixton East is by Tube. The nearest tube stop is Brixton (10 minutes walk from the place) on the Victoria Line. Trains come every 2 minutes so it’s pretty quick. Brixton is covered by the night tube too, so you can get back at 2am when the party’s over. You can plan your route/see updates on the underground here. It may be beneficial to get an Oyster Card with a day pass corresponding to how many days you will be in London so that you can take both the tube and busses to where you wanna go. Information on getting on can be found on the Transport for London (TFL) website.
If you are flying into London, you have probably noticed we have several airports. Any of them have good connections into central London, so go with whichever one is cheapest (except Southend – it’s not really in London but is marketed as such!). So you’ll probably fly into Gatwick, Heathrow, or Stansted. If you come into Heathrow, they’ll try and sell you a “Heathrow Express” ticket when you arrive, which is the slightly faster train but costs £22. It’s really not necessary to do that – Heathrow is on the Piccadilly Line of the tube, it has its own stations, the tube comes every 2-3 minutes and will cost you max £6.
